Toxicological risk assessment based on a unique combination of experimental and desk-based experience

Dr Paul G Brantom, the principal of Brantom Risk Assessment Ltd has worked in the field of Toxicology for more than 40 years, combining  experience of supervising the conduct of  all varieties of  experimental regulatory toxicology studies to GLP and consultancy support to a variety of organisations and companies.IMG_1470

He joined BIBRA in 1969 with a first degree in Zoology from Leeds  University and completed his PhD on Carcinogenicity of  Nitrosamines as a collaborative student at the University of Surrey,  supervised by Professor Dennis Parke. Particular current interests are the use  of in vitro models in risk assessment as well as quantitative  toxicological risk assessment. Until March 2004 Dr Brantom was Head of  Toxicology and Information Services at BIBRA International.

Collaborations

Dr Brantom was the Manager of the Centre for Toxicology at the  University of Surrey, Guildford for more than 3 years and has retained  links with the university, continuing to lecture on the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Toxicology until retiring from regular lecturing in 2012.

Experience

As a registered European Toxicologist Dr Brantom has worked for numerous  companies and organisations in various capacities relating to  toxicological evaluation and registration of products. He is currently Chair of the Advisory Committee for Pesticide Residues in Food (PRiF), and is a past member of the Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) Veterinary Products Committee (VPC) Advisory Committee on Animal Feedingstuffs  (ACAF), Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes (ACNFP)  and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Panel on Additives to Animal Feed  (FEEDAP). He continues to participate in the latter Panel via membership of working groups and is also a member of the EFSA Working Group on Novel Foods. He is currently chair of the UK Advisory Committee on Pesticide Residues in Food (PRiF).
